Marsèll Paradise hosts A Is A Is A, an exhibition on typography stemming from Alphabets, a research project by Marcello Jacopo Biffi that explores a set of alphabets stemming from an elementary pixel matrix. The title of the exhibition is an homage to the line “A rose is a rose is a rose” in the poem Sacred Emily by Gertrude Stein, which evokes Aristotle’s identity principle, asserting that each entity is identical to itself. A selection of eight alphabets, printed by Biffi on simple A4 sheets, are presented on raw wood panels, designed by architectural studio From Outer Space. The papers are stapled directly on the wood panels, juxtaposing their rigid sizes with the variable dimensions of the plywood. The exhibition also showcases the film Détour, which takes inspiration from Biffi’s extensive alphabet research, serving as a cinematic extension of the show.
